MAX DURANTE

words suitable to characterize Max Durante, the veteran DJ and music producer of
the Italian electronic music scene.
His first encounter with electronic music was in the 80s when he was
watching KRAFTWERK on TV. Electro was Max's first passion. By 1985,
he started scratching and cutting, developing an outstanding style.
It comes as no surprise he is often dubbed the «wizard of the decks».
His career started in 1986 in a local private radio station in Rome.
Several major Roman clubs featured him from 1987 to 1990.
More experience he gained by participating in important Italian festivals
and raves. September 1992 saw the release of his first record, "Roman's Attack"
for HOT TRAX Records (Acv sublabel). The record was co-produced in 1991 with
the notorious D'ARCANGELO brothers (today on Rephlex rec.). Together they
launched the project "Automatic Sound Unlimited". Max released three records
under this title on the Hot Trax label between 1991 and 1994. From 1994 to
1998, Max worked as a roving DJ all over Europe.
During the early 2000s Max was working with such artists of international
fame as ANTHONY ROTHER and KEITH TUCKER, remixing Electroclash classics
like MISS KITTIN & THE HACKER's "1982", TIGA's "Sunglasses At Night"
and FISCHERSPOONER's "Emerge". Also an entire album for ALEXANDER ROBOTNICK
was produced.
FUCK YUO I AM A ROBOT
Fuck Yuo I am a Robot is a sex-electro duo supercharging with
body-bending basslines and the attitude of an adult magazine -
things getting soft are not accepted. And it ain't just the blown-up porn
imagery of their record covers that can be accounted for making you
sweat. Their last gig drew a police raid that still could not stop
the party. Crank it up, Scotty!
FABRICE & ANDREA ESU
2002. Rom ist eine Provinz. Nirgendwo gibt es gute Musik. Zwei kleine DJs
betteln darum, eine wöchentliche Party machen zu dürfen. Jeden Dienstag
seither gibt es L-EKTRICA. Die Partyserie, die den Electro nach Italien
brachte, und alles was Rang und Namen hat, dazu. Die Gebrüder Esu
sind seither in ganz Italien _die_ anerkannten Experten, und füllen
an jedem Wochentag in jedem Kaff jede Tanzfläche. Wäre nicht verwunderlich,
wenn eine ganze Karawane aus Rom nach Berlin käme, um den legendären ersten
Auftritt der Esus in Berlin nicht zu verpassen. Den Esu-Stil könnte man
vielleicht als «Minimal Rock» Electro bezeichnen. Kompetent und zuverlässig
einschlagend.
THAT'S
Erst kürzlich auf dem neuen BOMB BOUTIQUE Sublabel von NEUTON gestartet, hat
der Vokuhila-Italektriker Auftritte in Rom und im Pariser Megaclub Showcase
absolviert. Ergänzt um Remixarbeiten von FRANK MARTINIQ und TETSUO ging
die THAT'S Synthesizerkunst als 12" ganz schnell über die Ladentische -
kurz danach wurde die "Smart Thing To Say" Melodie gleich nochmal in
Druck gegeben für die Zehn-Jahre-Compilation des HADSHOT-HAHEIZAR-Labels.
Elektrischer Discosound mit Kunst und Humor, immer gern gesehen,
und die nächsten Italo-Traumtöne kann man live schon im Voraus absorbieren.
NACHLADER VS. SHOKKABOY
Nachlader vs. Shokkaboy machen sich über alte und neue Stücke Berliner Electropop-Existentialisten her, verpacken sie in ein clubtaugliches Format und schmücken sie mit Überraschungen aus.
Während Nachlader sich seine musikalische Inspiration als Mitglied von Bands wie RICH AND KOOL oder MITTEKILL holte, war Shokkaboy in London, Mailand und Tokyo unterwegs und spielte dort mit Konishi Yasuharu von PIZZICATO 5 oder CHRISTOPHER JUST.
L32
Das durchgeknallte Künstlerhaus L32 ist nach der Rütli-Schule womöglich
schon das zweitwichtigste Renomèeprojekt Neuköllns. Wer sonst kriegt den Spagat
zwischen unerhörter Feierwut und sozialem Engagement hin; wirft dabei
am laufenden Band Kunstfilmproduktionen, Kunsthostels, Kunst-DJs und
Kunstschreihälse ab.
Mehrere Künstler aus dem Hause L32 beteiligen sich am Gelingen dieses Abends.
E-KREISEL
Extrem erfolgreiche Ausgründung des L32 Konzerns. Zwei Rotzbengel
an Keyboards, Schlagzeugen, Plattenspielern, schreien ins Mikro,
oder auch daneben. Egal, es wird schon beben. Minimal punk oder so.
Was sind schon Etiketten. Gutes Benehmen ist zwar selbstverständlich,
aber das müssen wir doch nicht ausgerechnet im Club zum Ausdruck bringen.
Und? Denkst Du jetzt an elektronische Kreisel und Schwingungen und so?
Alles Unsinn. Der Nachbar hatte ein Namensschild, da stand E. Kreisel
drauf. Das reicht manchmal für einen Bandnamen. Gute Bands kommen mit
jedem Namen weiter. Manche heissen ja sogar Polizei oder Justiz.
MOKKASIN
Das englisch-deutsche Electronic Duo MOKKASIN verbindet Musik und Videokunst zu einem Ganzen. 2004 startete Soundtüftler Felix Neumann, Musikproduzent und Musiker bei dem Berliner Label LEGRAIN Records, den Liveact MOKKASIN. „Das Wichtigste ist die Interaktion mit dem Publikum ...“ so Felix, „die Leute müssen auf dem Dancefloor brennen“ und das hört man im nun erscheinenden Album „Get the Funk Out“. Satte Elektrobeats, Schmettersynths und KnarzeBass. Dazu mal ein Vocal und Elemente aus HipHop, Rock und Jazz. Musikalische Freizügigkeit - was auf die Arbeit von Felix bei MONOSURROUND, BOOMBAKER, LENN, CALIBER ROYAL, MISTER TOMS und viele andere Projekte zurück zu führen ist.
MOKKASIN rockte gerade das Berliner RIO, als George mit seiner Camera den Club scannte. George Cragg, Video Performer und Cutter für BBC besucht zufällig den Club für eine Reportage. Die Beiden kommen ins Gespräch und schon steht die erste Verabredung für die erste gemeinsame Arbeit „Elazerhead“ .
Nun veröffentlichen Sie zusammen Ihr Debut Album „Get the Funk Out“, mit Video zu jedem Track.
TETSUO
I come from where the sun don't shine. Or where it always shines, depends on whether it's summer or winter. Lots of fishies but no sushi up here. Lots of snow so you wear thick clothes if you go here. This girl came up from the south to do music once and she was wrapped in three layers of jackets or so. Then she broke her ankle falling on the ice.
I've been around & I've done stuff. I like free drinks and making people dance. My music put me in Ukraine one time, I got to eat borscht. It was great.
Interesting but kind of disturbing: This one time in Oslo I saw a singer get puked on. He just stopped in the middle of a song and asked for "a real, Norwegian, hairy viking to come up here and puke on me!" Someone did and it even got in his mouth. The singer gave the viking a hug (like he was his long lost brother) and sent him back into the audience, all the time fixing us with his crazy stare.
Tetsuo is from Norway. He released a 12" called "DISCO TEAM" on BEAUTYCASE Records, featuring remixes from NAPSUGAR and KOSTA GITANE.
